December 2, 2019

Thanks to our friends at SyncStream Solutions for the scoop on the latest deadlines regarding ACA reporting for the 2019 tax year. The IRS has delivered an early present to companies this year by extending the deadline to provide employees with their 1095-C forms from January 31st to March 2, 2020. As you larger employers may remember, the IRS has extended the reporting deadlines in past years, but typically later in the month of December. Please note, this extension, though, does not apply to the e-filing deadline for the 1094-C transmittal form, which remains due by March 31st. The IRS’s generosity knows no bounds as they have also decided to extend the “good faith effort” again for the 2019 ACA reporting season. What this means, in theory at least, is that if an employer makes any errors in their ACA filings, but the errors were made in a good faith effort to comply, the IRS will give the company the benefit of the doubt when it comes to penalizing the company for that error. myHRcounsel still does not recommend resting on your laurels as the ACA reporting season nears.
